‘Zoeking’ for the best match
If you go on your average job search site, you know how things usually go. You’ll encounter a big search tool that only uses a couple of filters, like a job title and location. Then you have to sift through reams and reams of ads to find one that’s semi-relevant.
Zoek US, on the other hand, uses five filters to find you the best match.
Think of these layers like different variations of fine sieves you use to smooth out a sauce. Each layer catches and removes a different level of granularity until what passes through the final layer is the purest, cleanest product you can imagine.
These are the five different filters we apply to a job search.
This is the most basic filter. It searches the existing job board for matches to the specific job title requested. If you used any old search tool to search for ‘administration assistant’, you’d bring up ads with any mention of the of the words ‘administration’ and assistant’. You could wind up with search results that display a job for a hospital administrator and a teaching assistant. It’s a start, but it’s certainly not what you’re looking for.
This second layer adds a ‘category’ filter that identifies jobs based on their sector, like marketing or education. If you take our original ‘administration assistant’ search and filter it with a ‘clerical’ category, you’d only see jobs related to clerical work that contained the above keywords. So you wouldn’t see any ads looking for someone to run a whole hospital. Better, but still not the finished article.
Resumé keyword extraction
This layer searches for keywords in your resumé that match ads with the same keywords. When you upload your resumé to your account, our software crawls the text in the file. Your resumé may have an entry for ‘lab technician’, and our software would instantly match you to the best job based on the words associated with this entry. This layer identifies keywords related to the ones it extracted from your resumé. From an entry for ‘digital marketing’, we might show you jobs related to content creation, PPC management, UX design and other similar roles.
Results are further refined by searching for synonyms of certain keywords. The term ‘teaching assistant’ could be written out by an employer as ‘teaching aide’ or ‘learning guide’.
