The Chief of Staff to the CEO is a critically important role, enabling the CEO to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders. This highly strategic and facilitative role requires a combination of focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role. The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and strong analytical skills.

**Key Roles and Responsibilities**

_Manage Strategic Implementation_

  • Across all responsibilities, partner closely with CEO's Executive Administrator.

  • Coordinate the execution of strategic initiatives to support the Strategic Plan and Annual Operating Plan.

  • Work with executive leadership team to develop and remain accountable to fiscal year strategic priorities through development of all staff communications and leadership meetings.

  • Prepare for, and facilitate, "critical path" leadership meetings and be accountable to ensure that the meeting objectives are realistic, that preparation is appropriate, that the CEO is well-prepared to make sure the CEO's time is leveraged most effectively in a meeting context.

  • Work with internal communications, the Employee Advisory Council and stakeholders across the company to ensure all staff and small group CEO meetings encourage staff alignment with the strategy. Accountable to ensure information is being communicated at the right time and tailored appropriately.

  • Support the executive leadership team's communications with the CEO, by helping to facilitate decisions the executive leadership team needs through receiving feedback from the CEO. S/he will support the needs of the executive leadership team in their ability to raise critical issues with the CEO and receive needed responses, guidance and decisions.

  • Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance.

  • Proactively identify issues that could impact the successful execution of the CEO's commitments. This responsibility involves elevating those issues about which the CEO should be aware and framing/positioning ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk.

  • Coordinate/orchestrate projects or commitments directly involving the CEO and her direct reports. This responsibility primarily focuses on ensuring alignment among the often disparate stakeholders and, when such alignment is absent, sharing this fact with the CEO and recommending mitigating approaches.

_Support Board of Directors_

  • Manage meeting logistics for quarterly Board meetings.

  • Work with executive team and stakeholders across the company to ensure all materials are completed on time. Copy edit and provide content input as needed.

  • Work closely with Board members to develop materials for their respective committee meetings including agendas, memos and relevant attachments.

  • Project manage Board recruitment efforts as needed.

  • Attend meetings, capture major take-aways, and work with executive leadership team to ensure follow up.

_Lead Corporate Social Responsibility Program_

  • The ideal candidate will exhibit a passion for equity and inclusivity in social impact and a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Manage annual budget, overseeing payments and ensuring the program meets its intended outcomes.
  • Develop weekly newsletters and marketing materials to keep staff apprised of upcoming events.
  • Oversee annual pro-bono program.

_General Project and Stakeholder Management_

  • Support the executive leadership team's communications with the CEO, helping to facilitate decisions the executive leadership team needs through receiving feedback from the CEO. S/he will support the needs of the executive leadership team in their ability to raise critical issues with the CEO and receive needed responses, guidance and decisions.
  • Independent leadership of special CEO-initiated projects.
  • Assess inquiries directed to the CEO, determine the proper course of action and delegate to the appropriate individual to manage.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of critical path projects in which the CEO is especially interested and/or for which her awareness and involvement is essential
  • Prepare "backgrounders" to ensure CEO is prepared and briefed for internal and external engagements.

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Five or more (5+) years project management experience. PMP preferred.

  • Two or more (2+) years strategic communications

  • Impeccable interpersonal skills

  • Ability to quickly build trusting relationships at all levels

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information

  • High energy, hands-on, action-oriented, client-focused personality that will drive for results

  • Able to work well under pressure, multi-task, and deliver on multiple priorities

  • Versatile and willingness to work on constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

  • Strong orientation towards data analytics, issue identification and problem solving skills

  • Two or more (2+) years experience working with federal clients in the U.S. Exposure to international development a plus.

  • Familiarity with corporate social responsibility programs, especially management of pro-bono programs.

  • Demonstrated comfort working with VPs, Executives and Board Directors.

**Minimum Qualifications**

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or related field and five-plus (5+) years of relevant experience. Experience may be used to substitute for experience.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, this position will be based as a telecommuter for the foreseeable future. Only when Abt reopens offices to all employees will there be an expectation that new hires return to the geographical office to which they were hired.
